Jason Bulinski, CFA

Founder

Five Dimensions is closed.  The firm was built upon three core pillars that keep the client at the top: distinguishable investment results, full transparency, and direct accountability.

Jason founded the company in 2022 as a registered investment advisor and sub-advisor. He is responsible for the portfolio management, risk management, and optimization of client portfolios and institutional investment strategies.

Before launching Five Dimensions in 2022, he served as the Chief Investment Officer at First Midwest Bank and Trust's $15 billion wealth management division. He led and directed strategic and tactical changes in both client portfolios and institutional strategies, producing some of the best performance in the banks 50-year history over a 5-year time period. Jason led and co-managed a large team of portfolio managers, traders, trust officers and oversaw management of an: all equity total return equity strategy, mid cap strategy, global long-short strategy, several tax exempt intermediate fixed income strategies, a taxable Intermediate strategy, and a global strategic tactical multi-asset strategy. In addition to speaking at regional and annual events, Jason managed the banks U.S. small cap strategy solo from 2010 to 2021, that produced annualized returns north of 20% over 12 years and ranked in top 1% for every active manager database.

Prior to First Midwest Bank, Jason worked at a Chicago based hedge fund and at BMO. He was an equity mutual fund manager on several strategies under BMO’s PhD quant group. Jason was mentored by a variety of Chicago based money managers from MIT and Harvard, and he has worked uniquely in all three-investing camps-fundamental-macro, quantitative, and shareholder activism. Jason holds both a bachelor's degree in accounting and an MBA degree in Finance, both with highest honors from DePaul University in Chicago. Also, Jason co-managed DePaul’s endowment portfolio while a graduate student, generating very successful returns, leading him to quit his master's in taxation program. He holds a series 65 license and earned the CFA designation from the CFA Institute.

Fortunes Won and Lost Trading in Kodak Stock: Inside a Wild Week Page 1 excerpts:

"For Jason Bulinski, chief investment officer and portfolio manager at First Midwest Bank, the big rise was an immediate moneymaker.

He had picked up some 162,000 shares in May. “Should be a good day,” Mr. Bulinski said in a morning email about Kodak’s stock. He had already more than doubled his original investment, but he still wanted to wait to sell.

Mr. Bulinski said he expected a surge as individual investors jumped into the stock. “Run, don’t walk. KODK up 550%! Sell all,” Mr. Bulinski said to several co-workers in an email that morning, referring to Kodak’s ticker symbol. Mr. Bulinski said he booked a 19-fold return for clients, selling all of his shares at an average of $48 a piece—for roughly $7.8 million.

Investors were running blind into shares of Kodak, pushing its valuation well beyond his own projections, Mr. Bulinski said."  Source: Wall Street Journal August 6, 2020, Page 1
